The Honda Classic is an annual professional golf tournament held in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Going back as far as 1972, this tournament brings the top professional golfers together for a unique, challenging course and has been the permanent home of the PGA tournament since 2007.

It is also the home of the well-known Bear Trap named after professional golfer ‘Golden Bear’ Jack Nicklaus which consists of three of the hardest holes on the course. Apart from watching the riveting game, there are also gardens to explore, after-parties, and shopping.

The Honda Classic is a full-day outdoor event, so dressing appropriately is important. Being in Palm Beach, most people will be dressed in preppy clothes. It is key to choose clothes that are modest and tasteful, while also being comfortable and practical for the outdoors.

Unlike other sporting events, a golf tournament has a more reserved atmosphere. You don’t have to dress up for your team, and silence is required when the players are swinging.

Avoid Being Too Formal or Informal

Avoid Being Too Formal or Informal

All though many people dress preppier for a golf tournament, avoid dressing too formally. You will be outside for most of the day, so prioritize comfort. On the same note, don’t dress too casually with clothes that are too tight, short, or revealing.

Comfortable Shoes

Comfortable Shoes

By the end of the tournament, you will have walked quite a distance on a variety of terrain including grass and sand. It’s a good idea to avoid sandals, flip-flops, and heels for the day to prevent aching feet.

Instead, opt for a comfortable pair of tennis shoes or street sneakers that offer support. Golf cleats are usually frowned upon unless you are playing, so save them for your own game.

Polo Shirt

Polo Shirt

A polo shirt is a preppier look than a t-shirt and can be seen on most golf players. It is formal enough for the golfing environment, while still being loose and more comfortable than a dress shirt. Choose one that is made of breathable material like cotton or linen.

Save these dress shirts.

Chino Shorts

Chino Shorts

A popular short style is chino shorts. They are preppy enough for a golf tournament without being restricted or uncomfortable. They also have deep enough pockets to help store your personal belongings. They look great paired with a collared shirt, sweater, or even a regular t-shirt.

Discover these chino and slacks.

Loose Day Dress

Loose Day Dress

If you are looking for a more feminine option, a loose day dress is a great choice. It will help you feel more dolled up without being too formal. You can dress it up with jewelry and accessories or leave it as is.

A loose fit will help you stay comfortable, and mobile, and keep you cool enough.

Khaki Pants

Khaki Pants

Khaki pants are a popular choice for men and women when the weather is colder. They are more formal than leggings and jeans, while still being loose and comfortable for a day of standing and walking.

Solid Colored Sweater

Solid Colored Sweater

Another common look seen at the Honda Classic is a sold-colored sweater on its own or worn over a collared shirt. The solid color will not distract the players and will make it easier to pair your sweater with the rest of your outfit.

Light Hat

Light Hat

Being outdoors for an extended period, you will want to protect your eyes and help keep the sun off of you. Choose a hat that is comfortable and lightweight like a baseball cap or sunhat and that won’t blow away if it is windy.

Wear one of these hats.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses

If you don’t want to wear a hat or want additional protection from the sun, bring a pair of sunglasses with you. Any style from aviators to a sports pair will suffice.

A Bag

A Bag

If you want to bring a bag or purse with you to the Honda Classic you will need to find a clear one to make it in. Also, the tournament only allows certain sizes of bags, so make sure to check that your bag is not too large.

Get inspired by these bags.

Skort

Skort

As with playing golf, a skort is a modest, practical choice that is still chic and fashionable. You don’t have to worry about bending over or sitting down unlike with a regular mini skirt. They also look great with tennis shoes and a polo. You will fit right in with the players at the tournament.

A Light Jacket

A Light Jacket

If the weather looks like it might rain or dip in temperature, or if you just want another layer, a light jacket is a great option. A lightweight jacket won’t weigh you down or overheat you and can more easily be tied around your neck or waist when you aren’t using it.

Save these jackets.

Rubber Boots

Rubber Boots

If the weather is rainy, the ground will most likely be muddy. A pair of rubber boots or rain boots will help keep your feet dry and are easy to clean if they get muddy. They also surprisingly look good with a variety of outfits from chinos and golf shirts to flowy, feminine skirts.

Romper

Romper

If you want a complete look that you can throw on, a romper is for you. Choose one in a solid color that is also modest enough. Dress it up with jewelry and accessories like a belt, or wear it as is for a stylish tournament look.

Wear Neutral Colors

Wear Neutral Colors

For the golf tournament, you don’t want to wear anything too flashy, such as bright colors, or bold patterns that may distract the golfers and TV viewers. Instead, choose solid, neutral colors or pastel shades that will help you blend in with the crowd.

Avoid Denim

Avoid Denim

Denim is generally considered too casual for a golf tournament. Replace your denim shorts or jeans with khaki pants or chino pants for a more formal look.

Save these denim looks for another day.
